Those of you who know me personally know that I love food. Ok, I know everyone loves food, we need it to sustain life…but I LOVE food. Almost to the point of embarrassment. I get giddy when I see something on a menu that is unusual (like geoduck). I do a little happy dance when I see components of a dish that I would never have thought to mix together (like a burger between two Tastykakes). I do the Nutty Professor Hercules clap when a plate gets put in front of me that is so beautiful I almost don’t want to ruin it (but I will). Remember the scene in the diner in When Harry Met Sally? The “I’ll have what she’s having” scene? Ok, maybe her actions were not specific to what she was eating, but that’s how I sometimes act when I am enjoying a good meal. See? Embarrassing.
To me, food is art, and there are no better culinary artisans than those in Philadelphia. So you can imagine my excitement that I am going to be the official photographer for FEASTIVAL on September 14th! FEASTIVAL is a culinary event that gathers together some of Philadelphia’s most distinguished restaurateurs and chefs to benefit the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe. You get to stuff your face while supporting the arts in Philadelphia. Sign me up!
Wait – there’s MORE! I’m giving away a pair of tickets to FEASTIVAL, valued at $500! It’s simple to put your name in the hat…just leave a brief comment below stating why you are a foodie. And then be sure to stop by my Facebook page and hit “like” because that’s where I’ll be announcing the winner on Wednesday, August 31st. Deadline to enter is Friday, August 26th. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.phillyfeastival.com.
Because I can’t post without a picture, here’s one of me at age 3 enjoying a lovely breakfast of eggs and cereal…and wishing I had a couple of Tastykakes to go with it.

congratulations on scoring the job of official photographer, ya foodie!
Thanks!! Now tell me why you are a foodie – because I KNOW you are.
It all started when, at the tender age of 6 months, I would eat Roquefort by the chunks.
My parents would take me to restaurants and order Roquefort for me to keep my busy during dinner. Apparently servers wouldn’t believe it until they’d see me digging in. It is still my favorite cheese to this day
A foodie from birth! I love it!
I moved to Philly 3 years ago from Manhattan. I thought Manhattan had the best restaurants – dead wrong! Our city of ‘brotherly love’ has a lot to offer. In an attempt to integrate myself to Philly living, I joined a kickball league, went to see the Phillies (was there for game 5 when they won the series), explored the arts – Kimmel Center, Academy of Music, Phil Museum of Art, The Curtis Center and more.
The part that got me hooked was the AMAZING food and restaurants. If you know me, you know I love brunch! Can you say Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Cannoli French Toast? Then visit Café Lift. In the mood for Quinoa porridge? It’s agave nectar, cinnamon, cardamom, golden raisins, cream, and fresh berries – can’t be beat at Green Eggs in NoLibs! How about a burger from PYT in the piazza? Try the Krispy Kreme Burger – A glazed Krispy Kreme donut serves as the bun for a double cheeseburger with chocolate covered bacon in the middle. OMG, forget the cheesesteaks!
YUM! I love all of those! Have yet to try the Krispy Kreme burger but it’s on my list!
I guess I’m a foodie because I love wine, beer, and cheese, and food from all over the world. There is really nothing I won’t try. And I love when my brother takes me out to brunch in Philly to try and prove that the food scene is better here than New York.
Congrats on being the official photographer for Feastival!!
Me too – as long as it’s not moving I will eat it!
I am a foodie, especially pub food!! This Irish gal, loves pubs so much that I would probably make a better bartender than teacher! I love burgers loaded with any kind of goooooey cheese… It has to be well done almost burnt.. I know gross, but that is just how I am… Lately I have been on the hunt for the best pulled pork sandwich… I love dark beers and enjoy trying new beers that are on tap.. Kind of a beer snob, but they just taste better in a pint glass… Other favs at a pub include WINGS of course, hot ones, Scranton has the best wings, my friend Bugno and I would probably disagree as to which pub had the better ones… DESSERT is a fav as well.. Ice cream is my downfall, but a good cheesecake or canoli ranks up there too!!
Jen – you need to come to Philly and go to Percy Street BBQ, the BEST pulled pork I have ever had, hands down.

Hi, my name is Christine and I am a foodie. I should be the founder of FA, foodie anonymous. Some of my favorite places to eat are byobs, proabably because of the usually crammed quarters and small menus. The price edward island mussels at Audrey Claire, homemade gnocci at Cucina Forte, guacamole and chips at Las Cuzuelas, and pasta at La loconda del chiottone are among my favorites ever!!! You can guarantee if anyone comes to visit me in Philly, we always end up just eating!!!!
Oh yeah…those mussels at Audrey Claire are the BEST. I was there with my dad once and the bowl was COMPLETELY empty when we were done…no broth left whatsoever…all sopped up with yummy bread (and then maybe we drank some of it, can’t remember).
Being a foodie is intrinsic I think. It certainly comes as easily as breathing for me. I have only one rule when it comes to food: I will eat it as long as it does not crawl off my plate. Simple. I’ts almost disturbing when I think about it, but I’ve quite literally eaten my way around the world.
Some people discover a foreign country/city through it’s art, architecture, language. Nope. Not me; I go straight to a locally recommennded restaurant. Always have always will. I taste my way through a destination. It’s foolproof. Somehow it allows me to bond with the native culture. When I moved to the Northeast I think I tried 6 different Philly Cheesesteak places. I’m still in search of the perfect one. Somehow I don’t think it really matters who makes the best; It’s all about the adventure of it. I look forward to discovering the many hidden treasures Philly, Princeton, Trenton (or wherever I happen to land) has to offer.
Congrats on being the official Feastival photographer Suzanne!
Great minds think alike Sal – that is my one rule too. If it’s not moving, I’ll eat it.
Congrats on the gig, Suz! You know I’m a fellow foodie and would LOVE to win those tickets!
“I’m a Philly Phood Phanatic because Philadelphia has some of the most Phantastic restaurants in the Phreakin’ USA, and dare I say, the world! With many Phabulous Phamous chefs and Steven Starr Phounding their empires here in the city of brotherly love, I can’t help but be a Philly Phoodie! Savory Phlavors and Phragrances matched with a phenomenal presentation create the irresistable combination for me!”
What a phabulously phantastic entry! Thanks Steph!
Some might say that I’m “obsessed” with food. I think that has a lot to do with being a foodie. A former roommate of mine reminds me constantly of how she had never met anyone that had so much excitement in brunch, cooking a random Wednesday night dinner, or just delicious delivery. It’s just an unexplainable enjoyment of eating!
Becoming a vegetarian about 5 years ago shocked many people close to me. I think the common misconception was that it would limit what i could eat/taste/enjoy. But I have found that it has given me a much larger appreciation for the creativity involved in all sorts of vegetarian and health-consious cooking. Raw foods for example are extremely artful and time consuming and most importantly, delicious! I don’t think I could do it all the time, but Pure Food & Wine in NYC is definitely an impressive culinary experience for example.
Foodies can eat/cook/create the yummiest of dishes without the meat! It may not be a krispy kreme burger, but there’s a lot of yummy to explore out there!
Thanks so much Roxi – love the vegetarian perspective!
Food, like air and water, is a necessity of life. Good food—no, great
food, however, takes this basic need to a whole different level.
Whether it be the simple comfort food of my youth, like creamy tomato
soup with crisp toast or saltines, or baked macaroni and cheese with
the burnished, tan skin of the cheese and milk on top keeping it warm
and moist—both homemade, of course—or one of the many ethnic dishes of
my hometown, when I indulge in a good meal or sweet treat, that basic
need in life is elevated to a level that only true foodie can
appreciate. In its simplest form, food excites me. The crunching of a
baby cucumber from my grandmother’s garden when I bite into it or
thick, rich panacotta made from fresh cream and honey create an
intimate experience between the palate and the food, almost like
making love. Besides its taste and appearance, I would have to say
that one of the best things I like about food is how it brings people
together. Read any good novel or watch any great movie and you will
see the communion between family and friends as they gather together
to eat. This bond has been the same for me all my life. From early
childhood through today, some of my most memorable experiences with
family and friends come from us spending time together eating simple,
delicious food. I suppose FESTIVAL is much the same—good food, good
friends, and good experiences for the palate and the soul.

Thanks for your post Chris – that is some passion for food right there! I can relate!
I like wine, but I like sipping it under a shade tree in the Vineyards of Sonoma Valley – does that make me a snob or a wine connoisseur? I like food, but I like to eat a dish of homemade piping hot gnocchi with fresh pesto as I sit at an outdoor cafe on a stool under the Tuscan sun in Assisi – does that make me a snob or a adventurous foodie? I like dessert, but I prefer to lick the whipped butter frosting off my cupcake one scoop at a time prior to devouring the cupcake – does that make me a snob or just crazy?
Well, if you are a snob…then I guess I am too…I love all of those things.
Assisi is one of my favorite places on earth!
I think you’re just a snob. At least you know you are.
Congratulations on being the official photographer for the Food Festival!! I am definitely into pasta. If told that I could choose only one food to eat for the
rest of my life, pasta would win hands down. While visiting Italy, several years ago, I lived the dream of eating pasta every single day of my visit. It was all so wonderful and such comfort food. And I second, third the motion, Assisi is also one of my favorite places in the world!
Thanks Mrs. B! I agree on pasta being comfort food…I can eat it all dressed up with meats, fish, sauces…or just with some olive oil, garlic, and salt and pepper…either way I am in heaven.
I’ve been a foodie for a long time, thanks to my mom. I’m always willing to try something new and adventurous! Living in Philly allows me to explore different cuisines. I especially enjoy going to food shows.
Philly is the place for food, that’s for sure!
Congrats Suzanne! I can’t wait to see your pictures – mmmmm. I can’t really pinpoint the time I became a foodie, actually in my younger years I was a plain jane eater. But now I love everything from filet mignon and lobster to popcorn & M&Ms at the movies :-p Last year I had the please of going to Talula’s Table twice and it was a religious experience – I still have dreams about the white eggplant soup topped with eggplant fritters, the beef cheek risotto, and the amazing cheese plate. My next foodie goal is Vetri – I am dropping hints like crazy to Drew that it would be the perfect gift for my 40th birthday in January – anyone want to come????
I was plain Jane as a kid too…I wonder when it all changed?? Also, count me in for Vetri.
Why am I a foodie? I might have the shortest answer ever to this one: I’M FRENCH!!!! Need I say more??
It’s in your blood!
